Horse transport

Icelandair Cargo has decades of experience in transporting horses, ensuring that the animals are properly cared for during the entire journey.

We transport horses from Iceland to the following destinations: Liege (Belgium), Norrköping (Sweden) and New York (United States) on direct flights. We can also assist on deliveries to other destinations.

Horse transport must be booked through one of our transport partners below. They will assist with all aspects of the service in close partnership with us and provide you with further information, including pick up, veterinary checks, documentations, customs and delivery options, and details on cost.

Preparations for the flight
Shipper must ensure that the horses are well prepared for transport and examined by a veterinarian. Shipper is responsible to ensure that all paperwork and certificates are correct and ready before the flight. Shipper is responsible, in case a horse needs to be quarantined (e.g. USA). It is important that all horses have trimmed hoofs, to prevent injuries on both themselves and other horses, during transportation. The veterinarian at departure site may reject transport if the horse is not fit to fly. Consequently, consignee will be charged a cancelation fee. Young horses must be halter trained and have some experience being around humans.

For further information regarding rules and regulations please see The Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authorities.

Airline liability
Icelandair Cargo transports horses in accordance with IATA rules and regulations. Liability under these terms is limited and we encourage shippers and/or consignees to purchase travel insurance for the horse prior to transport.
